Purdue University Northwest has a Grief Absence Policy established so students can take time away from campus to be with their family to attend the service and/or funeral of a family member. We are sorry for the loss that you are dealing with. Even in these unprecedented times, we are still here to assist you in navigating this situation while being enrolled in courses. We understand services and funerals may be impacted due to pandemic stipulations that are implemented around the country. The Grief Absence Policy still applies to courses that are being offered in any mode of instruction (virtual/hybrid/face-to-face). Please complete the form below to initiate a Grief Absence Request. A Student Advocate from the Office of the Dean of Students will contact you by phone or email within 48 hours to discuss your academic and personal needs.
Please note, the grief absence verification process will not be complete until communication has occurred with a Student Advocate. Your documentation must clearly show your relationship to the deceased.
For questions regarding the Grief Absence Policy contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 219.989.4141 or dos@pnw.edu. The Office of the Dean of Students office hours are 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
