Please read the following thoroughly to determine if a class absence notification is appropriate for your situation:
- Unforeseen events or circumstances may occur that cause a student to be absent from class. These include, but are not limited to: illness, bereavement, accident, or a catastrophic event such as fire.
- Class absence notifications are generally sent for situations where the student is out for one week or longer or whose condition does not allow the student to communicate directly with instructors in a timely manner.
- Students are always encouraged to notify their instructors as soon as possible in order to apprise them of the circumstances leading to their absence from classes and to develop a plan, with a timetable to make up missed coursework.
- Students may be asked to provide documentation to ensure the class absence is warranted.
- Instructors are expected to make reasonable accommodations for these class absences including administration of make-up assignments and exams whenever possible.
- Please note: The Student Care Services Class Absence notification process does not necessarily constitute an excused absence.
Class absence notifications are not automatically sent to instructors. They will be reviewed by Student Care Services staff prior to being sent. A Student Care Services staff member may contact you regarding this request prior to processing a Class Absence Notification. A copy of the class absence notification will be sent to the student’s Knights e-mail account.
